LEESBURG, Va. (October 31, 2022) Loudoun Medical Group (LMG), the leading multi-state, multi-specialty group practice has named Ravi R. Iyer, MD, The Iyer Clinic, as the new Director of Clinical Research to lead the LMG Clinical Research Initiative. Dr. Iyer is an Internal Medicine physician with over 38 years of experience in the medical field. Over the past 12 years, he has served as a Principal Investigator in FDA-regulated clinical trials and has continued to evaluate the latest treatments for chronic diseases and general medicine concerns impacting his patient’s health.
We are pleased to announce, Dr. Ravi Iyer as the Director of Clinical Research for our new LMG Clinical Research Initiative,” said Mary Beth Tamasy, CEO, Loudoun Medical Group. “Many of our physicians have already completed Good Clinical Practice training and are now enrolling patients in our active trials.” Loudoun Medical Group offers a diverse group of over 300 physicians and advanced practice providers that serve over 270,000 unique patients of all ages, genders, ethnicities, and cultural backgrounds annually. Participation in clinical trials that are both diverse and inclusive allow all communities to benefit from scientific advances.
According to the National Institutes of Health, the need for awareness of clinical research is vital to enhancing health, lengthening life, and reducing the burdens of illness and disability. Scientific advances in the present and the past were possible only because of the participation of clinical research volunteers. 1 Several studies indicate that awareness, changes attitudes toward clinical trials, enrollment, and the benefits of participation. (Harris Interactive Survey in 2001)
- 85% of patients were either unaware or unsure that participation in a clinical trial was an option at the time of diagnosis.
- 75% of these patients said they would have been willing to enroll had they known it was possible. 2
“Please join us in encouraging study participation so that our shared scientific discoveries can enhance health for future generations,” Tamasy said. “Additional Investigators and volunteer participants will be essential to be effective in this process long-term.” The physicians and practices in the LMG network encompass a wide spectrum of disease specialties with additional studies underway.
