Loudoun Medical Group Joins National Interoperability Initiative
To Improve Patient Care Coordination and Enhance Health Outcomes with PRISMA – Interoperability Search Engine
LEESBURG, Va. (September 1, 2022) Loudoun Medical Group (LMG), a leading multi-state, multi-specialty group practice, today announced participation in eClinicalWorks (eCW) PRISMA, a health information search engine designed to facilitate interoperability and access to care across networks. PRISMA is the health search engine that brings together records from small clinics to large-sale hospital systems who participate in the Carequality and CommonWell Health Alliance networks. Interoperability in healthcare refers to the secure access and integration of electronic health data so it can be used to optimize health outcomes. Patients can now opt-in to PRISMA, ‘One Patient, One Record’ at participating Loudoun Medical Group or affiliated clinical locations. Ahead of the Consumer Data Protection Act that takes effect on January 1, 2023, Loudoun Medical Group is requesting patients Opt-In to participate in to PRISMA now.
“As Loudoun Medical Group continues to bring on new affiliates throughout the region, secure interoperability allows us to streamline care delivery at the point of care, in real-time,” said Mary Beth Tamasy, CEO, Loudoun Medical Group. “Participation in PRISMA gives our clinicians and patients a substantial, sustainable clinical advantage.” Upon enrollment, PRISMA displays a single longitudinal view of the patient’s complete health history within their health record and permits the healthcare provider to search all available records.
PRISMA is integrated and automatically populates within eCW’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) which ensures LMG providers have secure access to a comprehensive set of clinical records regardless of the facility or electronic health record system used throughout patients’ healthcare journey. PRISMA seamlessly combines health records from specialists, urgent care, hospitals, primary care providers and wearable patient devices – whether they use eCW, Cerner, EPIC, or other electronic health record systems.
“Additionally, a one patient, one record approach can help LMG physicians identify unnecessary testing redundancies, saving patients time and money,” Tamasy said. “PRISMA also gives physicians a thorough understanding of a patient’s entire health history such as medication allergies or surgeries to help guide treatment plans and improve health outcomes.” Providers can search by keywords, acronyms or by abbreviations and data can include conditions, diseases, diagnostic tests, and medication history.
