Jennifer L. Young MD joined The Urology Group in 2011.  Raised in upstate New York, she was a Rotary Exchange Student in Spain for one year after high school where she became fluent in Spanish.  She then attended The College of Human Ecology at Cornell University and graduated in three years with an Early Assurance acceptance to the State University of New York Upstate Medical University.  She graduated from medical school in 2004.  Dr. Young completed her internship in General Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco and her Urology Residency at the University of California, Irvine.  She was trained by Dr. Ralph Clayman, the inventor and pioneer of the laparoscopic nephrectomy and several other minimally invasive surgeries.

Dr. Young has published numerous articles in the field of urology and presented at several national and international meetings.  She published a body of literature on renal cryotherapy, a novel, minimally-invasive method of treating renal masses.  She has received awards recognizing her research in cryotherapy on the optimal freeze cycle length in Chicago, Illinois; the effect of abdominal pressure in Shanghai, China; and temperature mapping in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Her special interests are in robotic cancer surgery, including prostate, kidney and bladder.  She has specialization in da Vinci robotic prostatectomy, removal of part or all of the kidney, correction of kidney blockage, bladder cancer and reconstructive pelvic surgery.  Kidney stone surgery such as robotic kidney stone removal, advanced ureteroscopy and percutaneous nephrostomy are her additional surgical interests.

Dr. Young is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a member of the American Urological Association.  She is a member of the Inova Loudoun Hospital Medical Roundtable Council.  She lives in Vienna with her husband and enjoys yoga, hiking, biking and has run street and trail marathons.
